I have now been to the south of France numeral times to paint the arrival of spring so to say. The upcoming flowers, new colors on the fields, singing birds and the pure joy of all the butterflies that flutter around me is a never ending inspiration.
I decided to paint every butterfly I spotted in France. The Yellow Lemon Butterfly I saw lots of times. But it took me a while before I was not busy doing something else so I could sneak up to her to look at her up close. It's best to get up early because butterflies need to warm up their wings in the sun before they can fly. And when they are sunbathing you have a much better view on their wings.
This painting is ready to hang. It is painted and signed on the side, so there is no additional frame needed.

'Yellow Lemon Butterfly' - 10x10 cm - LG
Zuid Frankrijk heb ik regelmatig bezocht. Het is heerlijk om daar te zijn en als het ware de opkomst van de lente te schilderen. De eerste bloemen, de nieuwe gewassen die de velden kleuren, zingende vogels en de ontelbare kleurige vlinders zijn een oneindige inspiratie.
Deze laatsten besloot ik een soort van te documenteren. Niet door ze zo heel naar met een speld door hun lijfje ergens op vast te prikken maar gewoon door ze te schilderen. Het citroen vlindertje zag ik al meerdere malen voorbij fladderen. Maar steeds was ik bezig met iets anders waardoor ik haar niet goed kon bestuderen. Het is handig om vroeg op te staan want vlinders moeten hun vleugels eerst opwarmen in de zon om goed te kunnen vliegen. En tijdens dit zonnebaden heb je natuurlijk een veel beter zicht op hun vleugels.
